Shipping

Please note: The US Postal Service began charging their increased “holiday rates” for domestic shipping on October 6, 2024. These will be in effect until January 19, 2025. We have temporarily raised our rates by 50 cents for domestic Ground Advantage (first class) and Priority. We will revert to our previous prices on January 20. Sorry about that, guys!

Domestic Shipping. We primarily use the US Postal Service to ship inside the US. We usually ship from the Bridgeport, PA 19405, Audubon PA 19407, or Eagleville PA 19408 post offices. The company through which we buy postage has begun offering UPS, and we may ship your package with that service if we believe it is quicker or safer; there is no additional charge if we switch your package over. Please let us know if you have a compelling preference for a specific carrier.

International Shipping. We know shipping to locations outside the US is very expensive, and often distressingly slow. We also understand that within the EU you are charged VAT on the shipping price as well as the cost of the goods. We use USPS, UPS, and Asendia for shipments outside the US; we will make the decision we feel will get the package to you quickest and most securely based on our experience with the different shippers to various countries. Most orders ship more cheaply than our standard charge of $25. We refund the excess payment. We can figure out what your refund will be only if we have the exact list of what you are ordering. You must still play the standard fee – this is only to help you decide about ordering. Please send us a note to inquire. In the very rare case of extremely heavy or large orders, we will write to discuss additional postage charges before shipping and ask you to pay the full amount. We may also ask you to pay for insurance if the total value of the package is over $300. Note: international customers must provide a phone number for us to include in the customs documentation. We will contact you before shipping if you have not provided the number. Thank you for your understanding – we are having increasing trouble with customs in the EU especially.

For everyone. Please make sure your shipping address is complete and correct. Please include St/ Lane/Way, etc. in the street address, and Apt. before apartment numbers, and so on. Please delete from your address any miscellaneous information (for example, your year of birth) that autofill has inserted. We depend on you to help us get the package to the right place! International customers should record their addresses as carefully as possible, as we may not recognize errors in identifying counties or municipalities, or other aspects of the address which differ greatly from US addresses.

In general, Priority is faster than Ground Advantage (formerly called First Class), but in the eastern half of the US and in orders shipped to other countries, it may not make much difference. Please contact us if you have questions about shipping costs before you order.

Priority prices are based on the price for a small flat rate box. These boxes are ~8.5 x 5.5 x 1.75 inches / 21 x 14 x 4.5 cm (external dimensions). Inside the US, if we can fit it in the box, we can send it at the flat rate. Outside the US there is also a weight restriction: 4 pounds/1.8 kg. In the very rare case of extremely heavy or large orders or orders that must be packed in two boxes, we will write to discuss additional postage charges.

Please note that in the case of orders shipped outside the US, if there are problems with delivery, we will only consider refund or replacement if you demonstrate to us that you have made reasonable efforts to communicate with the postal service in your country; you share a language with them and have ready access to phone contacts, etc. We do not, and we cannot and will not attempt to negotiate with them if your order goes astray after USPS/UPS/Asendia’s tracking shows it has arrived in your country and entered your customs or postal system. Please write before ordering if you want to add additional shipping insurance to your order.
