Woman at the Forge Pendant

Ah, the fires of love! The woman at the forge seems to be making a penis to her own specifications, but perhaps I’m missing something more profound. (Or something ruder, or something weirder – you never can tell.)

In any case, this pendant shares many features with contemporary depictions of Nature forging human beings, like the one in the gallery, from Le Roman de la Rose, France, 15th cent., Yale University, MS 418.
