St. Thomas Brooch (Sword and Buckler)

$14.00$15.00

Like our other Becket sword pilgrim sign, this brooch is meant to represent the sword with which Becket was murdered. The boss is raised into a point and the beautiful openwork is set off by a backing against which the pewter shines.

The original after which we copied this brooch was found in Salisbury. It is dated to the late 14th or early 15th century on the basis of the shape of the buckler and of the quillons of the sword.

This pilgrim sign is offered in four versions. You can have it with a pewter, copper, or brass sheet for the backing – or you can buy it with no backing and put in a paper, parchment, or cloth backing of your own choice. If you choose the DIY option we include a paper pattern to copy.
