There are many tiny shoes and pattens (trippen in Nederlands) in the Netherlandish finds; this was copied after an example found in Rotterdam and dated 1375-1425. When found, it was attached to a small brooch very like our charm holder with a flower. These represent a common type of footwear, made of wood and leather, worn over (but most importantly, under!) your shoes to keep them out of the dirt and mud.
