Naughty Curry Comb with Dangly-Bits

Don’t you dare shake that thing at me! Our excellent naughty comb with dangly bits is a stunning addition to our line of Moving Violations. “Combe of curraynge” is first attested in 1440 – before that you call it a whore’s combe – no, wait, an horse combe. So confusing.

As you know, we are particularly meticulous in documenting our naughty items, so we want to talk a little about the sources of this one. To begin with, many medieval curry combs had some feature that made a sound when they were in use. There are (iron) archeological specimens with loose rings on the stays that run from the comb to the handle. And there are a multitude of little pewter curry combs in the Netherlandish finds that have looped braces like the ones in our comb – one of which retains a drawn wire ring in one of the loops. We are guessing that many of these miniature combs had dangles of some sort.

Meanwhile, there are a dozen or more pewter miniatures of this general form, only two of which still have their handles. (We suggest you not “sword fight” with our comb.) Some of these toy combs are boring nice, but several are naughty – they have a penis as the central member, or a penis sitting on the head of the comb, or the word CONTEN inscribed. We mixed and matched – a penis and a handle – to make a complete comb. And then, of course, the comb needed dangly bits, which we have supplied.
