Louise on Stilts Brooch

Anthropomorphized sex parts are among the most delightful subjects of the naughty medieval brooches. Louise really gets around – in this case on stilts. We have yet to come up with a believable explanation of why.

There are numerous versions of this motif in the extant brooches, mostly turn of the fifteenth century. Ours was copied from an example dated 1375-1425.
