Large Double Buckle / Lobate Chape

$5.00$20.00 single piece or set

This buckle and chape are slightly adapted from (unrelated) English examples dated 1400-1450.

In 2023 we added an attachment plate to the buckle. Like looping the strap over the center bar, this is an authentic method of attaching buckles, but it has a couple of advantages. It is quicker and easier to attach, and it lets you pein up the rivets against the back of the plate, rather than having to fidget with a little washer. More importantly, it lets you use the thicker leather that many of our customers prefer without skiving it down – and leaves more room in the opening of the buckle for that leather to pass through. The gallery photo shows the buckle and its plate from the side.

Fits a 7/8 inch or 23 mm wide strap.
