This excellent, strong cloak (or coat) hook is copied after an original excavated in Rotterdam and dated 1500-1600. It has a tinned iron rod, pointed at both ends, that is cast into the pewter and then turned in to make the hooks. Read more about this technology in our Tech Treats.
Like other items we have copied from the Rotterdam finds, it has extensive decoration, producing a very lively surface. (This is not especially characteristic of Rotterdam as opposed to other towns, just of Marianne’s avid attention to glittery objects.) We think you will like this cloak hook as much as we do – and we like it a lot!
