This businesslike but highly decorative clothing clasp is a replica of a fastener found in Rotterdam. The original is dated 1350-1450. This clasp is a modest size (1 3/16 x 1″ or 30 x 26mm when hooked together) but it is robust, with a wide bar and a strong hook. It will keep your cote securely closed and it can also be used on other lighter to medium weight garments. (We do not recommend it for heavy cloaks – better to use our Leaf Cloak Clasp, which has a copper alloy hook.)
The two pieces of each clasp are cast simultaneously in one mold, as shown in the gallery photo. After clipping and cleaning, the hooked section is bent so it can grab onto the bar.
Like the Rotterdam exemplar, this clasp has a graceful flare and extensive surface decoration. The beautiful little pearled strands between the array of balls provide numerous locations for sewing the clasp to your garments. All in all, an excellent glittering accessory for your medieval attire. We sell them at $3 for one clasp (two pieces) or $9 for three clasps.
